We focus on athletes and other physically active individuals.

Rapid changes in medicine, increasing specialization in orthopaedic and trauma surgery, as well as increasingly comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation, requires a team approach to treatment.

We treat athletes with orthopaedic impairments and injuries, both pre- and postoperatively, including rehabilitation.

Information for visiting physicians

The often used term Fellowship for spending a longer period of time at another hospital (i.e. USA) implies a legally accepted position of a medical guest. In Germany there is no such position in our health care system, which means that visiting medical colleagues cannot actively treat patients during their stay at a clinic in Germany.

We want to give you that information in advance, so that you know what to expect from your stay at the Sportklinik Stuttgart:

Only 1 Fellow for a maximum stay of 3 months will be accepted
You need to speak German or English fluently
To participate on a regular base in our outpatient clinic you need to speak German
You can observe surgeries everyday ( in 5 OR)
You will be allowed to assist surgeries
You will not be allowed to perform surgeries

For your general information the Medical Team of Professor G. Bauer performs over 5000 surgeries a year with the main emphasis on knee and shoulder cases. During your stay you will see all sports related injuries except severe trauma cases. We are not a Trauma Center, which means we are not integrated in the city ambulance system.

Unfortunately there will be no financial support from us during your stay at the Sportklinik and we can not provide any accommodation.
